Inspiration for the construction of the globe came from a similar structure that is located on Cleethorpes seafront. The globe will also be a recycling point that will enable the academy to reduce its plastic waste.
To drum up local support for the globe installation project, Year six pupils wrote persuasive letters to local business to ask for their support. This provided the pupils with a great opportunity to practice their writing skills and led to a range of really lovely responses from business owners across the region who offered their support for the project.
This project follows a year where the academy has been working hard to become more eco-friendly and encourage pupils to take an interest in the environment. This has included the creation of the Green Influence Club, which provides an opportunity for pupils to brainstorm ideas on how they can be more eco-friendly.
OSPA has also recently achieved the Green Flag Award with Merit after showcasing how they have been promoting and embedding sustainability through their curriculum learning and wider enrichment opportunities.
In achieving the Green Flag Award, the academy has implemented a range of initiatives to help them become more eco-friendly, including developing a forest school to ensure pupils have the opportunity to learn about nature outside as well as providing lots of different clubs to inspire pupils into caring for the environment. Additionally, the academy has also purchased hot compost bins to reduce their food waste and has onsite allotments where they are creating their own freshly grown stew packets.
The academy is hugely grateful to the local businesses Atlas Leisure Homes, Blackrow Group, Sar Metals, Myenergi, Xceco, Global 4 Components, Orsted, Divine Sleep, Prestige Furnishings, Signs Express, MPMbradford, MKM Leisure, The Ernest Cooke Trust and Condor Carpets for their support and kind donations, which led to the creation of this fantastic installation.
Kayleigh Miles, Enrichment Lead at Ormiston South Parade Academy, said:
“It’s so amazing to see the globe finally built, we have really enjoyed working closely with the many wonderful local businesses who have supported us in promoting sustainability and raising the aspirations of our pupils. I cannot thank them enough for their continued support.
“It has also been truly fantastic to see all of our staff and pupils across our academy work incredibly hard to ensure we become more eco-friendly over this past year and help to create a better future for our children and community.”
